Abbotts College is a high school catering for Grade 8-12. At Abbotts College, our students are our passion. At Abbotts College, we focus on personal growth and academic success so that every single student can fulfill their potential. Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22 verse 6 At John Wycliffe we have a discipline policy which clearly defines the boundaries within which the pupils are allowed to enjoy their freedom. Pupils understand the behaviour, appearance and academic performance expected. We partner with parents to maintain discipline for the benefit of pupils and the school as a whole. Parents and prospective applicants sign a commitment to abide by the code of conduct of the school before they are enrolled. Fees are payable in 12 equal instalments on or before the first day of each month. We use the Western Cape Education Department curriculum but have the freedom to modify the guidelines to bring it in line with the aims and objectives of the school. The grade 12 examination is administered by the Western Cape Education Department. We integrate biblical principles into the content and objectives of the subjects. your child(ren) stays for aftercare you can send a blanket and pillow for resting time. You can also send an extra snack for Aftercare (we find the children need a snack around 15h30) If you should run into the occasional unforeseen problem, please phone on the Aftercare phone to inform the Aftercare staff. If you are late on a regular basis, we unfortunately will have to inform you that you cannot make use of our Aftercare service anymore and that you then need to make other arrangements for your child. We encourage healthy eating habits. Each class will follow its own theme programme for the year. You will receive a ‘homework book’ every Friday informing you about the next week’s theme, vocabulary etc. This will give you the opportunity to be involved with your child’s education. Discipline is a fundamental part of our school and we apply it in a controlled and loving manner. If children should argue a staff member will step in, diffuse the situation and encourage the children to apologise. At the same time we encourage the older children to resolve situations by themselves. We do not use physical punishment, scream at the children or belittle them. We use time-out, 1 min for every year old. .If it should be a serious situation like biting, etc. the preschooler will be taken to the office and the situation will be handled by the principal or vice-principal. Should we have discipline issues with a child the parents will be consulted in order to find the best way to deal with the child. If this should persist we will have to ask the parents to remove the child until such time as the behaviour changes.
