Just a heads up on the progress with regards to the training of “Lubrication Mechanician “
Ultra-Flow Lubrication Systems has been involved from the beginning when this was only thought about in our industry.
Now it is becoming a reality after more than a year that I have been involved in the curriculum and that a quality Lubrication technicians can be trained and have a proper qualification and that it is recognised.
This is a process and we still have a long way to go but I am happy to say it is going in the right direction.
Training and development in LSA has improved a lot over the last two years.
We have achieved a number of new developments in terms of increasing our participation in skills development projects in merSETA, qualification developments, trade recognition, competency certification of employees and apprenticeship.
The title of the occupation ‘Lubrication Technician’ has been recognised and it has been changed to ‘Lubrication Equipment Mechanic’. This title has been registered on the OFO Coding, which is an international coding system for all accepted occupations.
The Lubrication Equipment Mechanic has been accepted as a trade and it will be listed and gazetted before end of 2013.
We have achieved the development of an occupational qualification and it will be titled Lubrication Mechanician. This occupational qualification has been completed and it will be tabled at the QCTO for evaluation, approval and recommendation to SAQA.
LSA is committed to the development of its employees and it is for this reason that we have four employees that have been trained to achieve artisan competency certification.
There are ten employed apprentices who are all registered at merSETA. Their training will continue until such time as they are qualified Lubrication Mechanicians. This training will take a minimum of three years.
We are actively participating in the merSETA activities including being accepted to participate in the AATP project, internship and RPL Projects.
We have consistently complied with the legislative requirements of submission of the Mandatory Grants Reports (WSP/PTP/ATR/PTR) and we are actively participating on the Discretionary Grants training projects.
Even though the economic conditions are a bit strained, we continue to actively provide and send employees for training. For all the office bound employees their training needs are informed by the performance assessments that they complete once a year and for all the technical employees, their training gaps are informed by the skills assessments that are conducted annually.
We are currently accredited by merSETA as a training provider for Lubrication and technical related unit standards.
We have plans in place to become the very first training institution and a trade test centre in the world to be accredited to offer training for Lubrication Mechanician.
