Car crime doesn’t seem to go away. Every day there’s a car theft somewhere near to you. But most of the time it’s avoidable.

A little extra security can go a long way.

Here, we’re going to give you a quick and easy 4 step guide to making sure your car is safe at home.

Remove valuables – Most people tend to leave things in the car once they’ve parked up. Car radios, wallets, equipment, the list goes on. And you might think that it’s secure in there.

Think of it like this – leaving valuables in the car when you aren’t in it is like turning your vehicle into a shop window for thieves.

The next time you park up, have a look around you and remove anything that might be an invitation for a thief to come and have a go.

Park it safe – Whether you’re parking at home or out on the streets, you need to be smart about where you’re leaving your car.

Avoid parking in dark, dingy streets. Instead, look for areas that are well lit and populated, a thief won’t want to strike where they’re easily seen.

And at home keep it in the garage. If a thief can’t see the car, they aren’t going to target it.

Lock up – Sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many people seem to ignore it! Even if you’re just running into the shop for 20 seconds, that’s enough time for a thief to jump in and hotwire it.

Don’t run the risk, always lock up.

Safety equipment – You pay a lot of money to run your car, so why would you put that investment at risk by not making sure it’s secure?

Purchase car security equipment such as steering locks, in car CCTV and alarms. If a burglar sees the flashing red light of an alarm on the dashboard they aren’t going to go anywhere near it.
