Time Out

Luxury and decadence... a
stone’s throw away

Situated on the banks of the Klipriver and nestled
amongst lush vegetation on the outskirts of
Johannesburg South, lies this jewel of a banqueting
venue. Thornbirds allows you to escape the drudgery of
the city to a peacefulness that will make every function
special, exclusive and unforgettable.
Entering through the gates of Thornbirds Conference and
Wedding Centre is equivalent to entering an African palace
with great food, great service... where no request is too large
or difficult to arrange. The cuisine at the venue is
really something out of this world! The executive chef, Lavina
Africa, uses her kitchen utensils like magical wands –
creating dishes infused with exquisite flavours and presented
in unique and interesting styles.
During our visit to Thornbirds, we could hardly scratch the
surface of what the various menus have on offer. We were
seated in the Tapas Bar, a warm and friendly stone cottage
venue. The service was excellent and the wine was perfectly
chilled. Our hosts, Wesley and Jonathan, served an array of
starters, main course and dessert...each dish an attempt to
outdo the previous.
Thornbirds caters for weddings, conferences, birthday
celebrations, anniversaries, picnics, braai’s, themed and
corporate functions and year-end celebrations. The friendly
staff will help you in the A-Z of planning and coordinating
your function and ceremonies can be held in the magnificent
garden settings.
A non-denominational stone chapel is available and
self-catering packages are available for Muslim and Hindu
functions.
The venues are named after South African birds and up to
250 conference delegates can be hosted in various seating
arrangements. The conference venues are all air-conditioned
and fully equipped with the standard equipment.
Thornbirds’ 4 Star accommodation offers an extensive range
of different room types to suit your specific requirements.
Thornbirds is certainly one of the most exclusive, yet
affordable venues in the area and anyone looking to host a
conference or planning an upcoming event should certainly
give them a call.
