A pool net could save a Life...

Recently my husband had the very traumatic job of fishing our 4 -year old daughter out of the deep end of our swimming pool.

He dilligently kept watch on our two girls running and playing outside until, needing the loo, he walked down the passage, (still carefully listening for them) after finishing in the bathroom, he checked in on the girls from the bedroom window and watched as little Kaiann, stumbled and fell into the pool.

By the time he reached her (15 seconds at tops) she was already sinking to the bottom, her eyes wide open under the water desperately kicking her little legs as she struggled to get air. The event only took a few seconds, but I hate to imagine what could have happened if he wasn't watching her as she fell in...we could have lost her ...

Yes, we have a pool net and no, it wasn't on - "Its such a hassle to put it on...." Haven't we all uttered that at some point? - We are now heading into the silly season, where there is swimming and entertaining around the swimming pool (in our home swimming is a daily thing) and statistics show that there are in fact more drownings in-land, during the holiday season, than at the costal regions we frequent (who would have thought?)

Tips to prevent drowning include:

1. Installing a barrier to the swimming pool like a pool fence or pool net and to make sure the pool net is securely attached, at all times
2. Attentively watch swimmers; rather get the kids out of the pool if you need to do something
3. Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) - just in case you need to save a life
4. Make sure your domestic helper knows about your pool safety rules and does not allow the children to swim, if she cannot swim
5. Teach your children to swim
