Would you like to sleep in a "National Monument"? Our house in Cape Victorian Style, was the townhouse of Mr. Reitz, the governor in the early ages of 1900. Family Reitz lived on a farm. They only came to town on special days and church days, where they lived for a few days in "our" house. That was long ago, but still today the atmosphere is like in the old days. So enjoy the evening in our beautiful lounge with an open fireplace or relax during the day in our wonderful indigenous garden. Secure parking on the property. The Nectarine Suite (photo gallery thumbnails 4, 5, 6) is a big luxury family suite for 4 people, with separate entrance, a double bed, over a few steps you would be able to go to a gallery with 2 more single beds, a lounge with TV (SABC 1, 2 and 3 and E-TV), and a bathroom with bath and shower. The Apricot Suite (photo gallery thumbnails 8, 9) our honeymoon suite, with en suite bathroom and wonderful atmosphere, little TV and separate entrance in the Main House. The Orange Room (photo gallery thumbnail 7) our new renovated double room with en suite bathroom The Lemon Room a double room with a double bed also in the main house with en suite bathroom with shower facilities The Mango Room a double room in the main house with 2 single beds and en suite bathroom with bath and shower facilities Your breakfast will be served outside on the terrace under the "thatch" roof, and consists of orange juice, champagne, a fruit platter, something sweet (cake or muffins), bacon and eggs, at least 4 different jams and honey, a selection of cereals, joghurt, toast and as much filter coffee and tea as you like.

Bathroom features include: Enjoy your first - some say most important - meal of the day in the charming rustic ambience of our breakfast room. We provide a choice of Continental or delicious English breakfast, cooked to order, and possibly the best coffee in town. Are you ready to take the plunge? We have a large, salt water swimming pool ideal if you want to cool off on a hot day and a lapa (covered shelter) with a lovely view of the Langeberg Mountains. Parking There is ample off-street parking - sufficient for all our guests - protected by a security gate which is closed after nightfall. Gardens The cottages are flanked by attractive landscaped gardens, with lawns and borders of indigenous plants and secluded seating areas. Situated mid way between Cape Town and George, Swellendam is an excellent overnight stop for travellers following the Garden Route and a great destination in its own right. The town has good restaurants, historic buildings, art galleries and potteries, attractive tree-lined streets, golf course and a beautiful environment (game reserve, nature reserve, river, forest, fruit farms). We would be delighted to suggest some things to see and do in and around town or help you to choose a restaurant - we know most of the local attractions and the best eating places.

There is something quite magical about Schoone Oordt. She has been passionately and lovingly restored over many years by Richard and Alison Walker. As a result, she has been instilled with charm and grace and she adores welcoming guests. Her extensive grounds house eight magnificently crafted sumptuous rooms, a quaint, private family cottage and a romantic and secluded honeymoon hideaway set in lush, abundant gardens and sheltered by aged oak trees. Each luxurious room has conceded to every modern convenience whilst unique, restored (mostly by Richard) antiques retain the Victorian feel of the Manor House and a bygone era. The Manor House itself boasts the most exquisite light and airy conservatory, which Richard built in true English style, a cosy fire-lit bar and lounge, an intimate dining room and a true country kitchen. The warmth of the original wooden floors, ceilings and doors coupled with many quirky antique pieces creates a wonderful welcoming ambience and guests are encouraged to ‘kuier’* here. Schoone Oordt is passionate about food, about wine, about people and about the environment. Meals are made with love. Breakfasts are traditionally a gourmet affair and Schoone Oordt has developed quite a reputation for them using fresh herbs and occasional veggies from her garden as well as local farm produce. Complimentary afternoon tea with home-baked savoury and sweet goodies is served overlooking the garden on sunny summer afternoons. Intimate, delicious (pre-reserved) dinners are served in the Conservatory or more privately, in the manor house’s cosy dining room. Here guests can enjoy a carefully prepared, by Chef Wander himself, three- or four-course tasting menu with wines sourced (by Sonette) from the celebrated verdant regions surrounding Swellendam; Robertson and Hermanus. Occasionally, a traditional South African braai or fun-filled music evening is offered.
