Carla van Zijl is a Registered Counsellor (PRC 0024627) and Psychometrist (PMT 0091332) in Independent Practice with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She holds a BA Hons in Psychology (UWC), BA Hons Criminology (UNISA), and is currently working toward her MPhil Criminology at UCT. Since registering with the HPCSA in 2015, Carla has been actively involved with Claremont Practice as a psychometrist and counsellor. In addition, Carla has offered student counselling services at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She also spent some time as a School Counsellor at Edgemead High School. Her interest in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) led to her collaborating with the Neurodiversity Centre (NDC) where she offers psychometric testing for children with ADHD or Autism. Christelle Duckitt is an Educational Psychologist who completed her Master’s degree at the University of Stellenbosch. A great deal of her experience has been in working with children with autism and their families, and her thesis focused on a narrative analysis of the dynamics between a child with autism and the immediate family. Her previous work experience includes working for the Good Hope Psychological Services in Stellenbosch, where she worked mainly with children who had experienced grief, loss, parental divorce, behavioural problems, abuse, depression, ADHD and developmental delays. She also saw many adolescents and helped parents with parental guidance techniques. Thereafter, Christelle worked at the Vera School for learners with Autism where she played an integral role in their outreach team: supporting schools and families with autism specific interventions. Christelle has also been working for a Community-based organisation in schools for the past year. Here she works with parents, children and adolescents who experience emotional difficulties. Christelle prefers a ‘person-centred’ approach to her work, with emphasis on establishing a non-judgmental therapeutic relationship and often using a narrative working style. Christelle enjoys working with a broad range of psychological issues in children, parents, adolescents and young adults. This includes individuals experiencing educational, behavioural, social or emotional difficulties as well as guidance for their families and teachers. She enjoys play therapy and facilitating social skills groups. She is trained and experienced in the administration of psychometric tests for both children and adults (including IQ and developmental assessments, school readiness assessments, career guidance and subject choice assessments). Christelle is able to provide both therapy and reports in Afrikaans and English.
