Revelstone attended the Concrete Manufacturers Association (CMA) Awards FOR Excellence on Saturday 3 November 2012, at the Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg. Saturday was also commemorated as CMA’s 40th Anniversary.
As members of the CMA we were enthused to take part in this auspicious ceremony.
Revelstone submitted four projects in the following categories namely,
Aesthetics – Checkers Hermanus and Ridgeside Umhlanga, Durban; Innovation – Wembley II and Vintage – Vodacom Building Century City.
We were proud to receive the National Award - Highly Commended - Vodacom Century City in the Vintage Category.
The brief from the Architects for Vodacom Century City required cobbles of a 75mm thickness for its Entrance/Driveway/Parking area to the office building. For the interior lobby and reception area a cobble tile was chosen to continue the cobble theme from outside to inside giving an “outdoor” feel and to enhance the water feature that runs through the centre of the interior building. Our products were chosen for their aesthetics and hardwearing properties along with mixed colours which complimented the building.
This product was chosen for its longevity and durability, further entrenching concrete products as a viable option in commercial developments.
The comment from the Judges was – appropriate choice and creative use of paving material which has proven its durability.
Criteria on which the judges based their decision was – condition of installation such as colour, texture, structural integrity of installation, age of installation, environmental conditions affecting the wear/erosion of the installation (severe, moderate, etc).
