Should I use Facebook or Google Ads !

10 May 2019

Whether or not you have done Digital marketing or paid advertising before, there is always the question, “Which platform should I use”. In this post, I will share the comparisons between two of the biggest advertising platforms and list the different uses for each of them.

The platforms that I will be talking about is Google AdWords and Facebook ads. These are the biggest advertising platforms that yield the best results, but they aren’t meant for just any business. You could spend a small fortune on either of these platforms and not get any results. So, which one is right for you….

Well, that question is not so simple, but let me try and simplify it in any way. The best comparison I have ever seen regarding these two platforms is to think of Google ads as a “Tiger”, whereas Facebook is a “Mousetrap”. Great, now you’re probably even more confused but let me explain.

GOOGLE ADWORDS

Google advertising is represented in this blog as a tiger. What does a tiger do? Its very simple, a Tiger goes out and looks for its food. It does not sit around and hope for the best, it actively goes on the hunt.

Google AdWords is the same. You choose and bid on various keywords that represents your business or product, give it a budget and Google will actively go on the hunt for any person that falls in that criteria or searches for your keywords. The process and setup behind Google Ads are a little bit more complicated than that, but you get the general idea.

If you are a Furniture manufacturer and would like to get in front of customers who is actively searching for “furniture” or “custom furniture” in a set area, then Google ads is the best place to be. You are laser targeting your audience and then when you find them, you drive them into your Sales funnel (Landing pages).

Google AdWords works best if there is a huge number of searches for your specific product/niche. This can be determined by doing Keyword research by your Digital marketing company.

FACEBOOK ADS

Facebook ads, like mentioned earlier, is like a mouse trap. You put the piece of cheese out there to anybody that passes by and wait till someone takes the cheese.

Just like Google, you can choose your specific audience in Facebook advertising. There are various interests and demographics that can be used to laser target your audience (Age, gender, income, area, interests, job title etc.). Even though you are laser targeting your audience, they might not be in the market for what you have to sell them. Let’s take the example of the furniture manufacturer again. Your Facebook ads might show to 40 000 people, however only 4 of them might even consider being in the market for new furniture. That’s not great odds. I’m not saying that Furniture manufacturers should not use Facebook advertising, but it might yield better results to rather start off with Google advertising.

Now, on the other hand, you might be a local band that needs exposure or a new “Online career portal” that needs as much people to register on your website, as possible. In those cases, Facebook advertising will work much better than Google advertising. You will get far better results and your exposure will be phenomenal. We have all seen Facebook ads on our news feed for products or services that we might not be interested in, but don’t assume that other people aren’t interested. Take a new App for instance. Its difficult for them to pin point their target market, so it is a much better option for them to use the power of Facebook advertising.

The question is simple…Do you need to hunt for your leads or attract your leads? This is a question that you need to ask yourself. If you cannot come up with the right answer, be sure to approach a digital marketing specialist. We have all the necessary experience to make a educated decision whether or not you should use Google Adwords or Facebook advertising.
