La Vichelle Guesthouse is under new ownership, and has newly been renovated. Sonja, Manages the guesthouse and has years of experience in the industry.
Owner, Vicky v d Berg, has style- fully decorated the spacious rooms. They have 5 Double rooms & 2 Single rooms. Each room has its own colour scheme, with air con, flat screen TV, mini fridge, Kettle, Tea/Coffee, Microwave and en-suite bathroom. The GREEN room was definitely my favourite! A pool is available to refresh after a hot day, Jungle Gym for the kiddies to play on and braai area to relax with a sundowner. DSTV is available in the communal lounge area where you can meet with fellow guests.
The new thatched Conference facility next to the pool caters for up to 50 people with ease and offers a large pull down screen, projector and flip chart. The bar area can be used to serve the refreshments. This venue is sought after and already been booked by some large Corporate Companies for their seminars.
The location is ideal for hospital out-patients receiving ongoing treatment or for families visiting their loved ones at Wilmed Park Hospital. For this reason a SPECIAL HOSPITAL RATE is offered of ONLY R 260.00/ room per night. Breakfast and Dinner is available on request. The Info Centre had the privilege of visiting KOHRA FARM LODGE & LION PARK. The Kleynhans family has been operating on Rietfontein farm for the past 53 years. This fully functioning farm is situated on the Buffeldoorn road just outside Stilfontein. Tersia gave us such a warm welcome. They have cattle, sheep and pigs and friendly farm dogs. For the past 12 years, her son, Jaco, started breeding with the lions. Moved by the movie, “To walk with Lions”, the name Kohra, also originated from this movie.
The experience here was totally awesome! We were able to interact with the young lions in their encampment, hugging, petting and lots of laughter, as they try nibble and grab your pants. In total, there are about 30 lions. Nala, the main lioness has even been a star in the Klerksdorp Record, due to her giving birth to 5 cubs on three separate occasions. Delary is the King of the show, roaring and showing that he is boss. Besides the beautiful lions, they also have 2 Cheetahs, Pottie & Spikkels. We watched as they showed their incredible speed, in being thrown a chicken each, for a meal. The Wild Dogs that are listed on the extinction list , is also at home here, and have also given birth to 4 puppies in the past. We also met to very inquisitive Meer cats and a Lynx pair.
KOHRA FARM LODGE & LION PARK is ideal for a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. They have comfortable “bush” accommodation and also cute wooden cabins, fully kitted with air con and a lovely corner bath. Very popular with School Groups and visited by foreigners from ALL over the world! We highly recommend you pay them a visit!
