It is recommended to seek medical assistance after one year of unprotected intercourse and still no
conception has taken place. It becomes for necessary the older you are to seek assistance sooner
rather than later especially after 35 years old. There are a few tests necessary to determine what is
causing you not to conceive.
Men would have to do a physical exam as well as a semen analysis to check the health of the semen.
Women would have to endure a more complicated exam including medical history, blood work,
pelvic exam, ultrasound as well as x-rays. Blood works would need to be done on specific days to
check for ovulation, fallopian tubes are checked to make sure they are not blocked and a few other
medical checks to determine the exact reason for not conceiving. In nearly 80 % of couples the
problem would come down to ovulation or a lack there of and in about 15% of couples the cause
would be unknown or unexplained infertility.
Treatments available would be as follows:
In men the treatments could consist of surgery on the scrotum- widening of the varicose veins as in some cases there could be a blockage. Medication to assist with more and in most cases better quality of sperm. Have a look at some of our medication in our store that will assist with this.
Fertility Drugs to help ovulation or restore hormones to their recommended level.Ovarian drilling, this is usually recommended to anyone suffering from PCOS where tiny holes are made in the ovaries to help eggs release when you ovulate. IUI- Sperm is collected from the male, washed down to get the best swimmers then placed in the womb as close as possible to ovulation.
IVF- usually starts with loads of fertility drugs, sperm is collected as well as eggs from the ovaries and are fertilised outside in a pea dish, and once they are fertilized they are placed back in the womb. A pregnancy test can be taken a few days later to see if it has been successful. The success rate in IVF is much higher than other forms of fertility treatments.
GIFT and ZIFT-The sperm and egg are collected and quickly placed in a fallopian tube. With GIFT, the both sperm and eggs are placed into the fallopian tube. With ZIFT, the sperm and eggs are brought together in a lab and then a fertilized egg is placed into the tube at 24 hours.
