The partners, Gill and Di, both worked as caregivers themselves in the UK. This was after graduating from university with social work and psychology degrees respectively. Having realised that South Africa had a number of nursing agencies, focusing mainly on the physical care of patients rather than the more holistic approach to care, they decided to open a home based care agency. The agency would offer their clients a service encompassing all the aspects of daily care, enabling them to remain comfortably at home. The partners started the agency in 1996 at a dining room table with a telephone and a car. As the agency provided a much-needed service in the community, it grew and the partners soon required the assistance of more office staff.
