Yellowfish Lodge, Cathcart

The comfortable self catered accommodation is in a big thatched rondavel decked out in African style with two bedrooms (sleeps 6), a lounge and a bathroom. It includes facilities such as pool, braai etc. There are also well stocked game farms in the district. Although there is no tv in the lodge, DSTV is available on request in the main homestead for special events. The lodge has a fridge, microwave, two plate stove, toaster, kettle, cutlery, cooking utensils, towels etc. and is serviced daily for a nominal fee. Any other utensils are available on request. Nannies are available by arrangement for a nominal fee.

Although the Kei is usually muddy and suited to bait fishing we have 14 km on the Thomas which is usually suitable for fly fishing. Species include Smallmouth Yellowfish, Bass, Carp, Barbel and Eel. Trout fishing available nearby. Although fish can be taken in winter the fishing season is generally from October to May when the water is over 18 degrees. Much of the land has been unoccupied for decades and has hardly, if ever been fished. Most of it has certainly not been fly-fished. The Yellowfish are abundant, wild, ferocious feeders, fantastic fighters and are fast eclipsing trout as our number one freshwater game fish.

Limited hunting on the farm is available. Species on the farm include Mountain Reedbuck, Grey Duiker, Impala, Blesbuck and guinea fowl, plus the usual smaller game. Clay pigeon. Other species are available on other farms in the district.
