WHIZZ KIDZ, Pinetown

The daily routine (2years - Grade R) encompasses, morning and movement rings, open time where children choose which activity they wish to participate in i.e. fantasy, cognitive, puzzles, art etc. and weekly themed work sheets, discussions and songs.

The staff at Whizz Kidz are committed to providing learning opportunities through the medium of play. Play supports the entire curriculum and is essential to the teaching and learning ethos of the school.

Communication, Language and Literacy
In all the classes, the children are encouraged to expand their vocabulary and fluency by talking and listening, and by hearing and responding to stories, songs and rhymes. Children are helped to understand that written symbols carry meaning, to be aware of the purposes of writing and, when they are ready, to use drawn and written symbols for themselves

The Grade R group is introduced to Letterland which is used in most Grade 1 classes in Primary Schools, this helps them to hear sounds and recognise letters.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
The children become familiar with the sorting, matching, ordering, sequencing and counting activities which form the foundation for basic math.

As they use their developing mathematical understanding to solve practical problems, children are helped to learn and use the vocabulary of mathematics, identifying objects by shape, position, size, volume and number.
