I was employed at a guest house where I was required to live on the premises as part of my work arrangement while working long hours. From my personal experience, the living conditions during this time were extremely poor and had a serious impact on my wellbeing. There was very little separation between work and living space, and I found the overall environment very difficult to rest and recover in while performing demanding daily work duties. This period was physically and mentally exhausting. After my employment ended, I referred an unfair dismissal dispute to the CCMA. The CCMA ruled in my favour, finding that my dismissal was procedurally and substantively unfair, and awarded compensation. Despite this ruling, the awarded amount remains unpaid at this stage. I represented myself throughout the CCMA process, and the outcome is based on official findings recorded in the arbitration award. This post is a factual, personal account of my employment experience, living conditions during that time, and the outcome of formal CCMA proceedings. It is not intended as a personal attack, but as a record of events and official findings.
