Vulekani Special School, UMZIMKULU

Our family had such a horrible reception at this school in January 2025. We came excited to drop off our son and were not greeted or helped or asked any questions by the staff as we sat and watched the matron assist parents she already knew. After a long wait, no greeting she then proceeded to rudely tell us to open our bags and what items of clothing she wanted us to leave behind and take back with us - and that marking with a marking pen was not sufficient we needed to go somewhere to have labels printed on the clothing. We are not even locals and unfamiliar with the place for us to be told to go find somewhere to get clothing re-marked by her standards. The way in which she spoke to us was so cold, as if we had come in to fight so much so that we could not get through it all, at the thought that we would to entrust our son into the care of such, he is non - verbal, we made the decision to turn back and leave with him and called the principal regarding the matter who while seeming concerned on the phone, did not ever return our call again after making promises to rectify the matter. Hostel fees paid, uniform bought and then to be treated so poorly was very disheartening. Thoroughly disgusted, this was not the experience we were expecting, especially since we came prepared as new parents to the school expecting to be recieved with the care that we would expect given that our babies are the most vulnerable special kind and it already takes so much for us as parents to even trust them with others.
