Description

Vijaya Subramoney is the owner and Speech Therapist and Audiologist, based In Sunninghill, Johannesburg, who assesses and provides therapy for a variety of communication and swallowing difficulties associated with various medical disorders such as cleft palate, cerebral palsy, syndromes, stroke, head injury etc. Both children and adults of all ages are seen. Assessments and Therapy are also provided for feeding problems due to prematurity or a laryngectomy, fluency disorders such as stuttering, voice problems such as hoarseness, auditory processing difficulties in school aged children, delayed speech and language development due to middle ear infections.
Hearing screenings can also be conducted on-site at local schools on request.
Hearing tests are also conducted on children aged 4 years and above and adults. Industrial audiology services are also available.
Various ear plugs for swimming and noise control are also available.

Company description

A detailed assessment is conducted and feedback is provided in a meeting to the parents/caregivers. Thereafter therapy commences based on the individual needs of the client. An open channel of communication with my clients and their families is important so we can all work together for a common goal ie to assist the client in the best way we can.
Attendance at several postgraduate specialized courses and workshops in the above fields have allowed for a more thorough service to be provided. To name a few, I have completed my Bobath Paediatric Neurodevelopmental therapy(NDT) training in 2002 which allows me to work with children with cerebral palsy, Bobath Baby course, paediatric and adult dysphagia courses, training in the management of laryngectomy(2005). International training in adult swallowing difficulties has also enhanced my skills. I enjoy working within a multidisciplinary team approach with the parents, educators and other therapists to provide a holistic service to my clients.
