Description
uThukela Water (Pty) Ltd is the first South African municipal entity for the provision of water and sanitation services. The entity was formed in terms of the Municipal Systems Act No 32 of 2000, and operates in terms of a long term water services provider agreement between uThukela Water and its shareholders. The shareholders of uThukela Water (Pty) Ltd are three Water Services Authorities, namely Amajuba, Newcastle and Umzinyathi Municipalities.

uThukela Water commenced providing water and sanitation services on 1 July 2004 and currently serves approximately 290 000 households.
uThukela Water collects, stores, purifies and distributes safe drinking water, and collects, treats and disposes of waste water for more than 280 000 Customers. In doing so, it does customer services, infrastructure projects, operations and environmental services.
