Storme Brand is an HPCSA-registered counsellor based in Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa. She has been in private practice since 2012 and offers in-person counselling sessions locally and online counselling via Zoom to clients across South Africa and internationally. Her HPCSA registration number is PRC0023531, and her sessions are recognised by most major South African medical aids.
What Storme works with
Storme's primary focus is trauma - including complex trauma, accumulated trauma, and the kind that builds slowly over time rather than from a single critical incident. She works with individuals dealing with anxiety, including high-functioning anxiety that others around the client may not notice. She works with depression, including the low-level kind that makes everything feel heavier than it should without an obvious reason.
Her work also covers grief and loss - of people, relationships, places, roles, and versions of self. She works with couples and families experiencing relationship difficulties, with individuals navigating divorce and separation, and with people facing major life transitions such as career changes, emigration, and becoming a parent.
Storme works with clients dealing with workplace trauma and work-related stress, including organisations that require staff debriefing or employee wellbeing support. She also works with people navigating the intersection of HIV and mental health, which in South Africa remains a significant lived experience that intersects with stigma, grief and identity in ways that are not always well supported elsewhere.
Therapeutic approach
Storme's primary therapeutic approach is narrative therapy - a respectful, non-blaming way of working that treats the person as the expert on their own life. Narrative therapy explores the stories people carry about themselves and their experiences: where those stories came from, whether they are accurate, and whether they still serve the person. Storme draws on other approaches alongside narrative therapy depending on what each individual needs. There is no fixed protocol - the direction in a session comes from what matters to the client, at a pace that works for them.
Online counselling - South Africa and internationally
A significant part of Storme's practice is conducted online via Zoom. She works with clients across South Africa and with South Africans living abroad, including clients in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Mauritius and Canada.
Storme's own family has Zimbabwean roots and her extended family has emigrated widely. She brings direct personal familiarity with the emotional and cultural dimensions of the expat experience - what it costs to leave, what it means to belong somewhere new, and what never quite translates across the distance. This background is not incidental to her international work; it informs it.
She also works with digital nomads and location-independent workers who need a consistent therapist while they move between countries, and with South Africans working in commercial aviation and at sea, for whom traditional in-person therapy is difficult to access.
Qualifications and registration
Storme holds a BA (Hons) in Psychological Counselling from UNISA (2012) and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UNISA (2008). She is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a counsellor (Reg. PRC0023531). Her HPCSA registration means her sessions are eligible for medical aid reimbursement - she provides invoices with ICD10 codes after each session and clients submit directly to their medical aid.
