Description
The CT Scan facility at Stellenbosch University provides high quality, high resolution microfocus X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) scanning of almost any sample up to 50 kg, up to 600 mm x 1200 mm max (Smaller samples provide higher resolution). This new industrial and scientific CT scanning service is available to anyone (not limited to SA clients), at very reasonable rates from R1000 per hour for industrial clients, lower for academic projects. See our website for more information www.sun.ac.za/caf or mail me at [email protected]
We are a dedicated multi-user industrial CT Scan facility for academic and commercial clients. For commercial clients we can offer fast turnaround times and much lower rates compared to purchasing a machine for inhouse work. Whatever your application, try us for a potential solution!
The Industrial Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner is a x-ray inspection machine that allows 2D x-ray inspections of materials as well as 3D CT Scans of materials, to investigate and analyse the inside of any material non-destructively.
The measurement principle is similar to standard x-ray scanners. An object is exposed to collimated x-rays and the absorbed radiation is measured with a sensor on the opposite side. In contrast to standard x-ray scanning in a CT this procedure is repeated from different angles around the object which allows a full 3D reconstruction. The technique is used to detect small differences in density and atomic number of the scanned sample. CT scanning provides state of the art non-destructive analysis of material properties for a wide variety of materials.
It can be used to measure accurate distances, for example inside mechanical components, can be used to check porosity of materials, can be used to identify cracks, transitions or inclusions in materials, can be used to study the density variations within a sample, can be used to make a 3D CAD surface or volume data set of the scanned object (eg. Reverse engineering).
Standard 2D or 3D inspections reports are available, batch processing of large numbers of samples is possible, data can be provided in various formats such as jpg image slices, image stacks, dicom stacks, stl files, or volume files. Further analysis and high-end processing hardware and software is also available.
