St Francis Hospice, Gqeberha

St Francis Hospice was established in 1984 by a group of people with a shared dedication to providing a Hospice service in Port Elizabeth. This service would ensure quality of life through care and support for the terminally ill and their families.

This became a reality in 1986, initially through a home care service. In 1988, backed by the generosity of the community, it was possible to open a small In-patient Unit.

July 1997 saw the establishment of a rural outreach in the Kouga area, when a branch of St. Francis Hospice opened in Humansdorp, offering care to patients as far afield as Tsitsikamma.

In 1999 outreach into Uitenhage and the surrounding areas commenced.

Since 2000 Home Care Offices have been located in the various communities we serve. In addition, 6 Day Care Centres have been established. This ensures that Hospice Centres are more easily accessible to our patients.

St Francis Hospice, a service of care and compassion, is the Hospice available in the Nelson Mandela Metropole and Kouga Communities.

A member of the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA) St Francis Hospice is committed to upholding the national standards of Palliative Care.
