Riverine Rabbit Retreat, Karoo

The house has 4 bedrooms and a sunroom sleeping 10 in comfort. Bed linen is provided. There are 2 bathrooms with shower and bath respectively and a separate toilet. The large hunting lodge style lounge leads into a dining area with an indoor barbeque appreciated on cold winter evenings. The kitchen is well equipped and you cook on the iconic AGA or a gas stove. The house is surrounded by large trees; a lawn that invites children to play and an enclosed boma with a fireplace is for more sedentary recreation. The Sakriver meanders through the farm and, in parts, has carved out steep rock faces. 600m upstream is a dam with permanent water and stocked with carp. Fishing is permitted by prior arrangement with the owners. There are a great variety of walks with varying degrees of difficulty, good shoes being essential. Fossils abound and by arrangement walks to specific finds can be organized. There is a great variety of birdlife with a pair of Black Eagles in residence. Other raptors, including Fish Eagles, have been observed. The rare Cinnamon breasted Warbler as well as other unusual species is endemic. The farm also stocks game such as Springbok, Mountain Reedbuck and Kudu. Caracal has been observed and dassies abound. Gaze at the unbelievable starry sky, count satellites, the record being 36 in one evening including the International Space Station and on the owners farm let him show you far away galaxies through his telescope. But most of all lose yourself in the grandeur of the Karoo landscape where you can see forever, enjoy the silence and feel that you are the only human being on our planet. An experience good for your soul!
