Just brought the car back and they all of a sudden found a catch that they missed! Now they charge R1750 for a scratch not even visible! They are probably upset because they had to drive out twice to fix problems with the car that they first did not want to do. Beware! I do not recommend them at all!
Don't ever rent a cheapie

This is one of the worst place that you can rent a car in Cape Town.
We booked a new golf (2004) and got a old 199x version.
Shortly after the car broke down (30 km from rent a cheapies office) and we needed the road assistance, but they said there would go 4-5 hours before they could get to us.
So we had to wait on R27 in the baking sun, lucky we and the car got picked up by a local guy, so we got back safe.
When we got to the office next day, they wouldn't let us change the car because they would fixe it in some hours.
After a long discussion we got another old car one hour after. Older and in worse shape that the first.
Some days after we decided that we would take a trip on Garden Route, so we contacted Rentacheapie and paid the fee. They needed to check the car first, so we went there. Waited for one hour and was told that it needed new wheels. So we followed a guy into cape town for this wheel change (max 45 minutes they promised). 4 hours later the car was done. The reason for this waiting period was that the guy from rentacheapie own car should get fixed before, so he could leave.
When we returned the car they had a "printed" list of some speeding tickets that we apparently had got. No proofs or pictures just some text.
We made a deal with them and paid R1600 extra for them all.
Now we are back in Denmark and they are still charging us money from our visa card. They don't respond to our mails or calls.
So do yourself a favor: Never rent a cheapie here!

Rentacheapie car hire is a car rental agency based in Cape Town, South Africa. We pride ourselves on being the cheapest car rental option and are glad we can make car travel in the city so affordable.
Company description
Rentacheapie began back in 2006 when Grant Baker was approached by a German neighbour who asked whether he would “lend” his Golf Chico to him for R100 a day for a few days. At the time, it was a sensible way to make a little extra money on the side and the client was happy too, for such a bargain price. However, a few weeks later there was another knock on the door and he was now asking to borrow ‘the cheapie’. At that moment something struck home. There was really an opportunity to rent out ‘cheapie’ cars and with this model - the Chico Golf - it would be quite possible to buy a small fleet of them and turn a tidy profit. Sidebar: Did you know that a Chico Golf is a fashion statement of some sorts in Paris?!
Well, with all the European tourists, especially in the summer, and more especially the kite-surfers, they would all descend on Cape Town and be looking for a cheap car to rent. Thankfully, born out of necessity and a little ingenuity, Rentacheapie was created and as of writing we’re now at about 500 cars, many of which are a Parisian-fashion-statement Chico!
Our car rental company is based in Cape Town, South Africa and we take great pride in being the most economical car rental option in the city. Perhaps the country! We are really stoked to be able to make car travel more cost effective so you can spend more of your hard-earned money on seeing out city’s sights and sounds.
