Description
REHAB was established in 1997 when the Societies for the Blind, Mental Health and Association for Physically Disabled amalgamated in order to provide an integrated service to all people with disabilities and to extend service to the rural areas.
Our vision-
To be an association for and of people with disability that serves as an accessible and effective resource to promote optimal well being and quality of life.
Our mission-
To promote independent living and an inclusive society.
Area of operation-
Rural and urban areas of the Eastern Cape in the Amathole District.
Our priority is on the rural areas, especially identified poverty pockets, with little or no service provision.
Active sectors:
Education, Health, Social services, Employment, Research, Rehab’s Awareness.
Services:
Counselling-
Provide a counselling and information service to people with disabilities, their families and other marginalized people.
Groups-
Facilitate the establishment of groups to address specific needs of people with disability and their families.
Education-
To link parents of children with special needs to appropriate educational facilities. To advocate for the provision of equitable education for children with special needs.
Prevention & promotion-
Prevention of disabilities through early identification and development of intervention strategies.
Create awareness in the community on disability issues.
Advocate with and for the rights of people with disability.
Promote healthy development of all people.
Employment and occupation-
Facilitate the training and employment of people with disability.
Encourage the development of income generation projects.
Develop skills of people with disabilities.
Fundraising & Marketing-
Create awareness of Rehab.
Network with donors, business and other service organisations.
Encourage envolvement of public through volunteering.
Produce a quarterly newsletter.
Raise awareness and support for casual day.
This and That charity shop sells donated goods and is manned by volunteers.
Collection teams.
Resource centre-
Equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, magnifiers etc. for hire/purchase.
Access wheelchairs/buggies and other assistive devices from donors.
Low vision services - skills of daily training, low vision equipment.
Library and information services.
Provide administrative support for emerging disability.
