North Gauteng Mental Health is a Non-Profit welfare organization situated in Waverley, Pretoria. The Organisation was previously known as Pretoria Mental Health and has been in existence since August 1951. NGMH is affiliated with the South African Federation for Mental Health.

Our aim is to enhance and maintain the mental health of the people in the areas in which we operate. NGMH has continually changed with the times and addressed the needs of the communities in which it operates. When it was first established the organisation focused primarily on clients with Mental illnesses in Pretoria central, but since, the organisation has expanded to cater for intellectual disabilities and HIV/Aids throughout the areas surrounding Pretoria central.

Our most recent shift has been our focus on the Mental Health of children, specifically targeting Orphans, Child headed Households and other vulnerable children living in the communities in which we operate. The Healthy Life Style Programme was developed by NGMH to enhance the coping skills of children. Currently Mental Health is looking at the after care of OVC’s and how doing recreational arts, crafts, drama, dance and sport can positively impact on their Mental Health.
