Liedjiesbos is an intriguing mix of farm stay meets its super-stylish cousin, which translates into luxurious accommodation but with a homely, warm soul. Here you can chill on the stoep while savouring your organic coffee or eating something yummy and wholesome which was conjured up in our kitchen. Or, explore the grounds or stroll through our indigenous garden before resting your feet in a herbal footbath, while watching an enchanting Free State sunset…

At Liedjiesbos we are passionate about making a difference in saving the environment. This philosophy inspired us to plant only indigenous plants, and to do things as organically as possible. We want to show people that indigenous can be beautiful, and thus we have planted hundreds of indigenous trees and shrubs at Liedjiesbos . What used to be agricultural land will eventually be an indigenous bush that will be home to many species of birds, insects, and small animals - hence our evocative name, Liedjiesbos, which means songs coming from inside the bush. We are determined that the call of nature will be heard again!

The buildings on the property were barns before being converted into an upmarket guesthouse that blend seamlessly into the landscape. Our brief to leading local architects, Jan and Petria Smit, was to design a house with a Free State soul. The talented duo designed the buildings in such a way that they use as little energy as possible for the heating and cooling of the interiors. Most of the original building material was re-used or recycled, and energy saving devices and solar geysers were installed to reduce our carbon footprint.

The interior of this four star bed and breakfast guesthouse near Bloemfontein reflects our love of art, antiques, and travel. The décor is a blend of old and new, African, Egyptian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and more.
