The boundary hedges are home to a variety of bird species and the secretive Burchell's Coucal can often be heard skulking in the abundant undergrowth, its call reminiscent if a bubbling brook. Locals refer to it as the Rain Bird and believe that its call predicts damp weather. Cape White Eyes and Sun Birds festoon the Cape Fuchsia trees as they greedily drink the sweet nectar from the tubular flowers or munch away at the dark berries.
