Where did it all start?Our founder, Mr. Ben van der Merwe, originally started this business in 1994 as a small consultancy business. Employers were mainly assisted with Human Resource functions such as staff recruitment and career development.
During 1996 the LRA of 1995 was promulgated which immediately favoured industrial relations specialists.
It became clear that employers needed to be assisted by specialists, especially with disputes at the CCMA.
Over the next few years the business expanded and more consultants joined the fast growing business. In
about 2000 the business had to move into formal business offices as it had outgrown its home based office.
Expansion and Birth of HR City
The constantly expanding client base required the whole spectrum of HR services such as placements, payroll
administration, labour hire and labour law advice.
Soon the new business premises was overcrowded and in 2003 the business acquired 46 Church Street, Middelburg where it is based today.
During 2005 the Company, previously known as Personnel Management Services, unbundled it's various
services and established each HR Service as a business entity. The HR City group of companies was born.
Corporate Image
During 2006 the Company revamped its corporate image branding and the HR City name was established
nationwide.
Expansion of Services
In 2007 the company further expanded its range of services and added a formal training division, headed
by Lizette de Bruin.
Group of Companies
Today, HR City is the collective name for the group of companies rendering HR related services to a client
base of well over 100 businesses, irrespective of size, on a national basis, in the Mining Sector as well as
other Sectors in the Corporate arena.
The original principles of integrity, honesty, professionalism, and effectiveness upon which the business was
built over the past 14 years are still the foundation values which makes HR City a sought after service provider.
