Dr Jean-Pierre Van Der Berg is a clinical psychologist specializing in forensic investigative psychology, criminal profiling and institutional risk analysis. He provides evidence-based assessments, behavioral evaluations and expert testimony for corporate and state frameworks, including consulting for the South African Police Service (SAPS) Investigative Psychology Section (IPS).
His practice covers violent-offender profiling, victimology, organized crime, Critical Incident Stress Debriefings (CISD), Vicarious Trauma Mitigation and Specialized Unit Vetting. He specializes in malingering and deception detection, utilizing the Structured Inventory of Malingered Symptomatology (SIMS) alongside the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) for psychopathology evaluation. Therapeutic interventions include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Additionally, he utilizes Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technologies for clandestine grave localization and crime scene reconstruction.
