Chinaherb (Pty) Ltd, a Cape Town based company, was founded in 1997. After inheriting the essence of a profound knowledge, transmitted for millennia through Chinese Medicine, Dr Chunlan Li and Prof. Yi Zhang developed the Chinese medicine formula range, commonly known as the Chinaherb (Pty) Ltd Range. Chinese herbal medicine has been utilized for more than 2000 years. Traditional terms such as Yin and Yang, cold and warm, nourish and clear are used to describe the herbal properties. The medicine consists mostly of plant roots, while others of leaves, flowers, seeds and fruits. The Chinaherb formula consists of a combination of these natural substances. The majority of the herbs in a formula will address the aspect of disharmony in the body. The focus of treatment may either be on the acute symptoms, or on the underlying root cause of the imbalance. Other herbs will either enhance this treatment, or will add another subsidiary treatment strategy. The remaining herbs either focus the treatment on certain parts of the body, or modify the effects of previously used herbs by boosting their function, or counteracting undesirable effects.
