I have been in private practice for almost 20 years in the Westville/Highway area. I obtained a Masters in Counselling Psychology at UKZN. Over the years I have engaged in further training regarding the treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression panic, and a variety of other disorders. I offer the following services to individuals and couples:
Psychotherapy:
I treat adults and teenagers in a wide variety of disorders and issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, adjustment problems, grief, general stress etc. I believe that therapy is hugely beneficial in treating these problems, and in particular, in reducing the recurrence of psychological issues as well as reducing the need to rely on ongoing chronic medication. I use different treatment modalities that best suits the individual and problem presented. I also have a particular focus in working with couples in relationship conflict. I am passionate about teaching individuals and couples the necessary skills and tools to deal with future life issues in an empowering way. I work within a cost-effective, short-term, solution-focused framework and I am contracted into medical aids.
Divorce and Family Mediation:
I am also trained in divorce and family mediation. As time has passed, it has become apparent just how detrimental an acrimonious divorce can be on parental and parent-child relationships, leading to a host of psychological disorders and stunted psychological development in both the children and parents involved. Usually a couple separate attorneys each hoping to get the best settlement deal that they can. Often the legal bills and emotional distress begin to overwhelm the family. The divorce mediator assists the couple in making decisions regarding the division of assets, maintenance, and parenting. It removes the painful win-lose atmosphere that is often created in adversarial divorces. The process minimizes emotional trauma, and creates a co-operative atmosphere to co-parent healthy children.
