Hoedspruit is situated in the Lowveld, 50km west and midway between Orpen Gate and Phalaborwa, and is the gate-way to the heart of the Kruger National Park. The town is situated around famous game reserves such as Timbavati, Klaserie, Balule, Selati, Karongwe, Makalali and Thornybush Game Reserves. There are also many private game farms and hunting lodges. Hoedspruit is the perfect place to come on Safari in Africa, with good road, rail and air transport infrastructure. There are daily flights into Eastgate airport from OR Tambo International in Johannesburg.
The area is unique in that it is a wilderness haven and a highly scenic part of South Africa.

Hoedspruit-
Het laagveldgebied rondom Hoedspruit heeft een rijke culture erfenis en op vele archelogische plekken worden de mysteries van het verleden nu pas ontdekt.
Historici ontdekte dat de eerste Afrikaanse stammen door de Limpopo vallei trokken 300 na Christus.
De voortrekkers arriveerde in de 19e eeuw, op zoek naar een handelsroute naar Lourenço Marques (nu: Mapoto). Zij trokken door de klein-Drakensbergen en kwamen uit bij de Sandspruit rivier, een seizoensrivier die nu door Raptors View Wildlife-Estate en het Zandspruit Aero Estate stroomt.
In de hitte van het laagveld nam een van de pioneers zijn hoed af, en gooide deze in het koele water van de nu grotendeels droge rivier. Plechtig verklaarde hij dat hij zich hier aan deze spruit ging vestigen.
De naam Hoedspruit was geboren.
Gelegen in het zuidoosten van de Limpopo provincie, is Hoedspruit een van de belangrijkste hubs naar het Kruger Park. Een ideale basis voor dagtripjes naar Graskop via de prachtige panoramaroute. Daarnaast zijn er de diverse excusieve privé-natuurreservaten zoals Timbavati, Balule, Klaserie en Thornybush.
Het klimaat in Hoedspruit is subtropisch. Gemiddelde temperaturen in de zomer zijn rond de 31 graden, en 26 graden in de winter.
Het regenseizoen is van September tot en met April, meestal komen de eerste regens pas in November en de laatste buitjes in Maart. Met een gemiddelde van 400-500 mm neerslag is het een droog gebied.
Het drinkwater in Hoedspruit komt van de Blyderiverdam, waar de Blyde en Treur rivier opgedamd zijn. Een waterpijp van de dam is aangelegd tot in Hoedspruit.

Naast de gebruikelijke toeristische attracties zoals het Kruger Park, de Panoramaroute, Olifanten safari, Luchtballon vaart, wandelingen met leeuwen etc. is er ook genoeg te beleven voor de inwoners van Hoedspruit.
Zo is er de Drakensberg golfclub, onderdeel van de militaire basis. Deze non-profit golfclub is dus erg beta.
