Baron's Galley and Lodge, Hartswater

Will not reccommend to anyone. We only had one towel in a room booked for two people. After requesting another one, we never got one. The bathroom door cannot close. The tv has no remote and the reception is horrible on the only sabcs channels. The aircon also has no remote and makes horrible noices. There is no dustbins in the room or the toilet. The atmosphere is old dusty and not nice at all. Only outside parking for your car, not behind a gate but in the street. Worst guesthouse i have been to.

We enquired on the self-catering facility. The price quoted was more than was advertised on the website. We reduced our number of nights from 3 nights stay to 2 nights stay, and we were charged an additional R300! for reducing the number of nights. We were offered accommodation at the Weltevrede guest house. The garden at Weltevrede was not maintained, nor the swimming pool. Garbage was strewn on the premises. We were expecting a self-catering unit with separate rooms, but the unit had only one room with all the beds and the kitchen directly adjacent. We asked for another facility and were offered a family room. The bed was terrible to sleep in. Everyone had backache the next day. On the website they advertise Wi-Fi, but we could not locate the Wi-Fi network. There is also no secure parking at the lodge (although a car guard watches throughout the night). They are far overpriced and do not deserve the current star rating.

I almost do not want to give this place even one star on the rating scale. My family and I slept over at Baron's for a cousin's wedding and half the rooms did not have hot water on the afternoon of the wedding and the next morning. The bathrooms were dirty and moldy and the shower doors were falling off the railings. The bedding smelt like dust and the duvet lining in our room was not white, but brown from the dirt. When some of us started complaining the response was just: "why are you moaning so much, why don't you just f-off" Breakfast was poorly managed. There was only one staff member trying to serve buffet breakfast to about 30 people even though breakfast must be booked in advance. The ham that was put out was dry, the toaster had to be operated manually while only one side of the elements were working. I would not recommend this place to anyone since the manager/owner was rude and inconsistent with the payment arrangements. Some family members got the breakfast on the house while others had to pay full price. Another instance were that some people had to pay key deposits and others were afforded not to. The initial look and feel of the place hold promise of potential but the rooms and the service leaves much to be desired.
