Tungsten Carbide Insert Bits have carbide inserts pressed onto the cone. The carbide teeth are extremely hard and act as chisels to break up the formation. Due to the initial cost of the type of bit, longer runs are insured with the use of sealed bearings. Carbide button bits have useful life even if several carbide inserts are broken off, chipped, or missing. This extended life feature ensures maximum payoff in increased run time and less actual cost per metre.
