Simons' philosophy is simple -life and painting does not need to be serious all the time. His sardonic vision has given rise to his inimitable "commmedia dell arte "series, an ongoing pictorial saga of the 'fool' and his eternal quest for the solace of the grape. In contrast to this humorous body of work, Simon's landscapes are reminiscent of the old masters - luminous, detailed, often Turneresque in style, ranging in size from miniature to monumental and rather serious. An evocative phrase or line of poetry forms the inspired core around which Lyn layers magical, stylised landscapes, peopled with whimsical figures, birds and fish. Through these images and symbols Lyn shares her own delight in the enchantment of poetry and dreams. Her florals are richly decorative - set against sumptuous gold leaf backgrounds in vases placed upon colourful kelims. The vibrantly sensuous blooms are rendered in Lyns distinctive style. In real life she is a paranoid mother undergoing empty nest syndrome. However the Red Wine therapy is working very well.
