To have perfect lawn with Kikuyu, one needs to have a regular and strict Maintenance plan.
TO HAVE A THICK FINE MAT LIKE SPORTS FIELDS (Normal conditions)
- One needs to ensure that mowing happens in a cross cut fashion (north/south and east/west) 2 x per week. Once your lawn has reached the requuired density in thickness, mowing can be reduced to once a week but cross cut is still important. It is advsed to keep an eye on the denity of your lawn and feel it with your bare feet regularily. If and when it decreases in density, it means that the conditions of your area and soil requires for it to mowed twice a week.
- While the lawn estabshes itself, watering must take place 3 times a week for 10 minutes per area, there after it wll be 2x a week for 15 minutes per area.
- It is advised in order for your lawn to maintain a healthy condtion to fertilize it every 3 to 4 months depeding on the conditions of the area and soil, and also do a spring treatment every year.
- If you have clay soil, it is advised to add Lyme treatment to your fetilize process and use a spike roller to ensure the best absorbtion and to loosen the soil. I Garden fork can also be used for small areas by spicking the lawn 20 to 30 cm apart in rows.
