Amanzimtoti Government School (as it was then called) opened it's doors on 29 January 1936, with an enrolment of 29 learners, 2 assistant educators, and Headmistress Mrs. J. King-Lees. The school consisted of 3 brick classrooms, a small office and stockroom, a lobby, caretaker's quaters and an outside toilet (bucket system). The site was on 5 acres, between Cato and Farewell roads and the entrance was via a path leading from Adams Road. In 1953 extensions to the school were completed and the new school hall was built in 1970, as was the Junior Primary complex, which was situated across Adams road, adjacent to the Police Station. The swimming pool was officially opened in 1977. In 1991 the 10 000th learner Ryan Small) was admitted to the school and the school population consisted of 551 learners and 24 educators. At the end of the first term of 1994, the entire school moved to a new campus in Frost road, which had been vacated when the amalgamation of Kuswag Primary and High Schools took place. The school opened with a formal assembly on it's new premises on 18 April 1994. In 1995 a swimming pool was constucted and a modern computer centre, with 20 computers was installed for the learners to use. On 29 January 1996 the school celebrated its Diamond Anniversary, with an enrolment of 726 learners and 23 staff. Later in the same year the permanent concrete stands were erected around the swimming pool. The 11 000th learner (Dylan Löser) was admitted to the school. On June 2000, the Bothma Art and Culture Centre was officially opened. Staff and learners decorated the walls and made stained glass windows before the event. On 3 October 2000, a second Computer Room was opened, mainly for Senior Primary use.
