The Fire Department is being pro-active and carrying out spot checks on your business, so before they come to your business, get prepared, make sure your all your fire equipment has been serviced, in good condition, unobstructed and visibly marked (SABS approved symbolic signage); your fire register is complete and your “COFC” (Certificate of Fire Compliance) is either posted on your wall or easily accessible; your evacuation procedures are in place; your safety training certificates are valid and your health and safety management system complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as the SANS 10400 standards and regulations.
As we all know, claiming from insurance companies is not the easiest task to carry out as they have also become extremely brutal and hard, investigating all avenues of the incident. If the insurance company checks on the health and safety system and fire registers or records and find that you do not comply, they will more than likely discard your claim.
