3 Easy Ways to Conquer Time Management
Do you struggle with time management? Do you manage your time effectively? Are you overworked because of the long working hours? Do you struggle to get everything done on time? Are you living from crisis to crisis?
Do you wish you had time to...?
Do you wish there was an easy way to conquer time?
You are not alone. There are many people who are managing their time but not effectively enough.
Time management is an effective personal development tool.
Here are 3 tips for better time management.
To-Do Versus Stop-Doing
To-Do Lists
To-do lists have proven itself time and time again. The moment you make a list of things you have to do; you have placed yourself in a position that requires action.
Something needs to be done with the items on the list. Take action and start at the top of the list and work your way down. It’s very satisfying to check off or scratch out an item done. There are many To-Do-list apps and software available that will help you in this regard.
Another option is to “ignore” the list. You may think you are ignoring it, but the list is there in the back of your mind, prompting you to take action.
Adding items to a To-Do list evokes a sense of freedom. freedom to spend time on something else because you know you won’t forget the item, it’s on the list. As your list shrinks, the feeling of accomplishment grows because the results are visible.
Stop-Doing Lists
Some people have so much to do, that they never finish a to-do list. They are always carrying items over to the next day.
If this is you, then you should try a stop-doing list.
Take the to-do list and transfer all unnecessary items to a stop-doing list. Unnecessary items are tasks you can delegate to someone, tasks that are time wasters or tasks that aren’t relevant anymore.
Then stop doing them.
Busy versus Productive
Did you know being busy can become addictive?
You can be so busy being busy that you don’t have time to rest, for family and friends, for life…
Stop for a second and ask yourself how productive, are you?
Being productive will keep you busy. What is the difference between busy and productive?
The answer lies in the way busy people versus busy, productive people manage their time. Here are two distinct differences in their time management approach:
* Busy people complain they don’t have time. Productive people have time for that which is important. They don’t have time to waste.
* Busy people are keen on telling you how busy they are… (where do they get the time for that). Productive people show you results of what they have accomplished.
Prioritize and Procrastinate
Another action that leads to productive time management is to prioritise rather than to procrastinate.
When you prioritize your tasks, projects and actions, you know what to do next. You have a plan. It’s also easier to complete the tasks on your to-do lists because they are relevant.
Without prioritizing, you drift aimlessly, touching here, faffing there…It is also easier to putoff tasks that you don’t “feel like doing”. So procrastination creeps in and you don’t accomplish what you have set out to do.
When you prioritize you plan better. You have goals and dreams to achieve. That is what you are aiming at and each task you finish takes you one step closer. Procrastinators dream but never realize the dream.
