Welcome to Captain Jack’s

The concept of Captain Jack’s was born a number of years ago, from the need to have a fast boat on the water, available immediately, to take people out on the water without delay and back in a timely fashion.

We recognised the need to be informed when wildlife visits our stunning bay, and then get out on the water to see them. There is nothing more exciting than seeing real wildlife in one of the most stunning bays in the world! We have whales, dolphin, seals all visiting regularly, and people do not even know that they are here, and even if they did, there is no-one with the correct licenses and with a boat on the water, ready to go…which will mean that you can immediately get out to see them.

Company description

A slow cruise or adrenaline adventure

Our boat rides are unique and can be tailored to your needs. Lasting 30 minutes to 1 hour, we take you on a cruise through the Harbour area and around the Bay, stopping at all the scenic spots along the way. We exit the Bay towards Noordhoek, where we view the highest point of Chapman’s Peak and Slangkop Lighthouse in the distance. We ride across towards Llandudno, going as far as Sandy Bay.

We return via the crane wreck of the BOSS 400 in Maori Bay, and Duiker/Seal Island, where we stop and view the resident seal colony. Experience spectacular views of Chapman’s Peak, the Sentinel and Karbonkelberg and the world famous Dungeons area. Our boat is built for speed. The 2 x 200HP Yamaha engines ensure that you will fly across the waves, going as fast as you can handle it.

We do specific speed runs for the adrenalin junkies, with high speed turns included. Our boat, Eco Boat Rides, is an 8.5m Gemini semi-rigid, with two 4-stroke 200HP Yamaha Engines. It complies with all the regulations set by the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA). The SAMSA approved safety equipment on board includes a radio, life jackets, a first aid kit and flares. The boat can accommodate up to 10 Passengers.

There are always two crew members on board, consisting of the skipper and a deck hand. Our Skippers and Deck Hands have over twenty years experience at sea.

A life changing experience

We currently have the only Whale and Dolphin Watching License in the Hout Bay area.

Dolphins regularly visit our Bay to feed and frolic. Between June and November of each year, the Southern Right Whale passes through our waters, journeying from the Cold Antarctica to calve in the warm waters around Cape Town.

The Humpback Whale also passes through, en-route to breed and calve in Mozambique and Madagascar. Bryde Whales occasionally make an appearance as well.
